sugah : 13. Velma is probably one of his closest friends that isn't from his universe. How smart she is stands out yeah but I think what Hughie appreciates about her most is that she's loyal (she signed her friend out of prison and was willing to take Hughie's side about the crimes) and straightforward. She's upfront w/her feelings and a good friend

15. Velma is a far more rational person than Hughie and I think that has helped him spiral with emotions a bit less often. I also think the fact that they're a source of consistent stability for each other has probably brought out their better qualities more than the Dup setting would on its own lol
