even though I maintain a very clear and firm “this is above my pay grade, I’m going to immediately grab someone who gets paid enough to deal with this shit” attitude some days it’s harder than others to keep afloat

I take comfort in the fact that you’re only getting a temporary taste of how these people live with themselves all the time when radical empathetic reasoning (i.e., “maybe they’re just having a bad day”) fails me
