MOFA is aware of a Taiwanese individual who was seen outside the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office with inappropriate and disrespectful symbols, engaging in ignorant behavior. We’re aware of the historical implications of such actions for countries around the world and we condemn the incident outright.
Taiwan is a free and democratic country which respects rule of law and, while citizens’ right to express themselves freely is protected by the constitution, we would like to remind them of the negative and painful historical connotations of these symbols.
We call on all Taiwanese citizens to have compassion and understanding for other cultures and religious groups around the world and to work together towards a better and more tolerant future.
【外交部嚴正譴責以展示納粹符號及手勢等不當方式表達個人意見！】
由於納粹偏狹的意識形態與行為造成大屠殺及種族滅絕的歷史悲劇，納粹相關符號及旗幟，已為許多國家明文禁止使用，並已被包含台灣在內的多數國家厭惡及唾棄。
外交部重申台灣是自由民主的法治國家，憲法保障人民表達意見與言論自由，並呼籲國人了解納粹符號及手勢在國際社會中代表的負面意義及歷史傷痛，避免採取這種傷害其他國家人民情感、破壞台灣整體形象，又無任何意見表達效果的言行！
外交部誠心盼望與國人共同努力，對世界上不同文化、宗教與族群都能有同理心，共同實現更美好、更有包容性的未來！
