Nobody wants to pay to maintain things, nobody wants to pay to test things, they would RATHER things go wrong than pay to keep them from happening.

I see this a lot in software consulting but it comes to mind every time I see another article about a plane issue or a helicopter coming apart midflight. The latest of dozens of recalls on the truck my spouse drives. Etc.

Though the worst is when they DO test things and go through with them despite knowing they are going to harm people. And it hits the news and theres outrage for five minutes but then we move on and they face no long term consequences, proving to them that its an effective business model.
