: it's legitimately making me even more suicidal atp I'm desperate bc I've always had a problem w food but it's getting worse, even my husband has noted I can't taste anything
Yeah that sounds more physical than something autism would cause. If you were still tasting food but any pleasure gotten from it might be different or gone, that would be one thing but losing the actual sense of taste? Body issues definitely.
Curdy&Comfy
: it's like... all three issues yeah, I can't enjoy it and I can't rly finish most of it, but I also am progressively becoming less able to taste as time goes. I noticed this recently bc I have a bunch of major comfort foods and I can't get anything to taste any good or decently. it's actually driving me crazy.
8 times out of 10 when I start thinking things don't taste good enough, I actually need more salt or other sodium... it's hard to say exactly what it is though, since it's definitely different from person to person
I mean you can at least test the seasoning thing by adding your own seasonings and seeing if you can get it to taste normal or not. As for what to do, hmmmm. I would recommend taking stock of like, other issues you have with your body. apparently tooth problems can cause this, deficiencies like mentioned above, just regular infections...
yeah, it's probably harder to get that out where art is :c but if you can handle it, just adding a little salt to water can help a lot as far as hydration
✿Oli❁Shine✿
: I mentioned it in passing earlier but extremely strong flavors from, like, junk food, do reach me, so in theory I can taste but only junk food
If your electrolytes are depleted, it doesn't matter how much water you drink, without the salt your body won't retain it. I frequently have periods of time where I am drinking water nigh on constantly but it feels like it never reaches me if that makes sense? But then I drink something with electrolytes and everything starts working again
Basically without them your body kind of just let's it pass through without absorbing anything which like. Great, thanks body, it's not like we need that or anything
out here we have actual like, electrolyte mixes we can add to bottled water but I'm not sure how available, let alone affordable, any of that would be in your country. Coffee or tea, or high-water vegetables can help rehydrate quickly
The packets are handy but you can definitely mix up your own electrolyte drinks from scratch, it's basically a little salt with some sugar and fruit flavoring to mask the taste.
but yeah, if you can't find those, you can do a mix of fruit juice (orange juice is usually best), water, and salt at 2 water:1 juice (so like 0.5L of water, 0.25L of juice) and about 0.5ml of salt
I think a lot of people conflate "don't drink orange juice within an hour of this med" and "grapefruit juice is a potion of Your Meds Just Don't Work" too
since orange juice has some interactions within a specific timeframe and grapefruit just. fucks with a startlingly wide array of medications on an ongoing basis.
big woop
: I once drank grapefruit juice for a week while on my SSRIs and my husband and I had a very tense time that whole week, and one day I mentioned I was just getting some grapefruit juice and they let out the most "oh my GOD" sound I've ever heard. safe to say I'm not doing that again 😭 HAHAHAHA
idk this might be a combination of problems, my diet is crap, you guys might be right that I'm dehydrated and I'm reaching "might be a risk to self" levels of distress everyday so I'm thinking I need my meds again and try to work with what I have, which is not much but it's better than this
lmao yeah grapefruit is contraindicated for my hypertension meds. that's not even a psychiatric thing if I drink grapefruit juice my blood vessels just stop working right.
