( 5 ) Is your character religious? If so, do they follow the (or one of the) major religion(s) of their culture, or a different one? If not, are they more of an atheist, agnostic, or spiritualist (or none of the above)?
I think given clint's general whole middle america good ol home boy on the farm, it's reasonable to suggest he's probably generally vaguely some form of christian. little bit mama raised a nice boy, little bit expectations of time and place, probably not a go to church every sunday unless a foster family made him kind but
and frankly doing the shit he does and being as open-minded as he is, look. maybe there's a capital G God, maybe there isn't. there are gods, there are people and objects with god-like power,
( 7 ) How much formal education has your character had? How does this compare to the average citizen of their homeland? Did they enjoy their education or was it a struggle?
middle of nowhere bumfuck iowa in the 80s probably didn't have the best graduation rates, and I'm sure you got plenty of farming family kids, but still, means he's got less overall education than most people around him. it also sucked absolute ass
bc guess what, there was a stretch of time where he straight up wasn't even going to school bc that's what happens when you don't have a home address and live out of a car pickpocketing people with your mom so you can eat
like fuck he's crazy smart! by the time he's a seasoned shield agent he's got a bunch of languages under his belt, he can fly basically anything you put in front of him, he's good with tech actually, can make his own gear, and that's not even touching on the insane physics going on in his head that he just. does! for shooting. comes fucking naturally!
but there's a part of him that thinks he's kind of a dumb hick. not always, bc he has proof to the contrary, but also it's good to let people think that to underestimate him
( 10 ) Does your character act differently around strangers than they do around friends? Do they act differently around people from their native country or hometown than they do around people from elsewhere? If so, how dramatic is the difference?
so it isn't so much that he's a compulsive liar, but he's a spy and that means he gets guarded about things. but quietly. under the surface. he can be anyone he needs to be in the moment. it's like he tells kate, his job is to be a ghost, to go unnoticed
now when he's not on a job it's different, but...frankly not that much different. I think he has a default, affable and polite and maybe a little boring if he can swing it. be unobtrusive, be not a threat
let him fade into the background so he can observe and figure out where he stands and where he wants to stand with a stranger, y'know? but not gonna be a loud asshole or anything unless it's for some reason called for
and I think as far as hometown vs elsewhere, ultron's a p good way to show that. he's at home with family and he's relaxed and chill and casual and --kind of a really genuine version of the stranger reaction, you feel?
more make a good impression but also don't pay too much attention to him (bc. uh. y'know. for a good long while the fam and the farm were a secret, so...)
( 4 ) What are your character’s political beliefs? If your character is from a fictional world, are there political parties or groups that share these beliefs?
for being a down home midwestern culturally christian boy I do think he's particularly left leaning. you know how that boy latched onto robin hood? took that shit to heart okay don't even start with me
I think he's more worldly than he thinks he is, he's been places, he's seen the people, he's watched the world turn from a distance. yes, he does think sometimes you have to do violence and killing to make the world a better place; he thinks that's just straight up inevitable, that it's something some people are just gonna have to be willing to do
but if it's to let all these people live how they wanna live, with religion and gender and sexuality and expression and every belief under the sun, then fuck yes he'll be the guy to step up and do it
the government agent saw the writing on the wall of 'put your name on a list and have your actions be audited and dictated by an unelected council' and went ah. fuck that actually.
he's just a real live and let live, what other people do don't bother me and what I do don't bother them and we all live better for it, no judgement kinda guy
( 12 ) Your character believes something that is at odds with what the rest of their family and/or friends believe. Do they talk about it with them? If so, how do they approach the subject?
he doesn't have a short fuse but if he's passionate about something then he's willing to get in someone's face about it to dig at where they're coming from on it, and if he doesn't get a satisfying answer he'll get belligerent and shitty
hey mcu let characters talk and interact with each other more maybe like talking's good actually and if you film it right it can make for good tv or movie gdi
I do think any initial approach is going to be careful. cocked head slight furrow of brow little pull of a confused half-smile and probing about whatever it is, and reactions from there will determine if he gets heated about it or if he just debates it chill-like
( 5 ) Is your character religious? If so, do they follow the (or one of the) major religion(s) of their culture, or a different one? If not, are they more of an atheist, agnostic, or spiritualist (or none of the above)?
being jewish and also egyptian pantheon-ish sure is fun!!! marc has fun here!!! he's having so much fun having complicated-therefore-put-it-aside feelings about his religious beliefs!!! kill him
not that the egyptian thing's a belief. bc it's a lot less you are following a religion and more like an actual god from an actual religion has hand-picked you as a chosen one and now you're just in the middle of some shit you gotta deal with from time to time with a dead bird over your shoulder
marc's jewishness is very important to him but in a way that he also tends to put it aside. he very reached a point in his life where he stopped having things be about him, stopped wanting to be him, and dedicate anything not moon knighting to steven
steven's also jewish by proxy, like he also grew up in that household and has no reason not to also consider himself jewish, he still has lots of memories of all that version of his life. but also because he's...steven, he's also a lot less complicated about it all than marc
showing up outside the home, kippah and all, but then deciding he'd rather drink and be angry and be upset rather than go inside with his family and sit shiva when she died, and having the breakdown he did ripping the kippah from his head--
some awful mix of being fully ready to do what his religion and beliefs instruct him to do but being unable to let himself do it bc of how complicated his relationship was with his shitbag mother. sitting shiva would be more respect than he's willing to give but there's the part of him that wants to bc he knows he should
would it have given him the closure he needed? I mean god no probably not, but it might have at least helped? connect with his father, open up about why it's complicated to him. or maybe it would've just been too painful and awkward even if he had
but the thing with the gods in this case also is that once again it's not really belief or following a religion, it's not worship, it's servitude and that's SO different
mmmmmmmkay naturally answers for anything vary from doctor to doctor but I do think that- 13 makes things SO FUCKING COMPLICATED so let's just not bring her or the child up a-ahaha... -the doctor in general, and in this case 11 since he's technically the one I've technically got, LOVES this shit
he already loves myths and legends and also learning the real things behind them that formed them in the first place, of any culture, and gallifrey's are special because of [let's not talk about christmas and trenzalore and gallifrey being frozen in time but also the time lords show up once in a while] being the one person really left to remember them
I think he finds the idea that even time lords would have their own myths and legends, in spite of being themselves the stuff of legends, to be downright giddily ironic
and these are things he also wants to explore and find their origins and find what other people made of them back when gallifrey was a superpower of the universe
Excellent answers for both. It is laughably ironic, Marc's religious existence right now. Though I'd argue to serve a god you have to believe in them. Then again this is MCU territory and gods are usually just aliens anyhow
( 5 ) Is your character religious? If so, do they follow the (or one of the) major religion(s) of their culture, or a different one? If not, are they more of an atheist, agnostic, or spiritualist (or none of the above)?
( 6 ) How does your character feel about their culture’s mythology and/or legends? Do they enjoy learning about them? Or do they find them boring?
