hi welcome back to my nonsense life i work in a mall store two doors down from the entrance to the busiest part of the mall and today there was a shooting outside my store. looks like one injury total and obvs i'm fine so uh. ama?

cacopheny : yeah it was. i was too focused on getting out (through the store's back door) for much fear in the moment, and then running through the parking lot while trying to figure out just how dangerous the situation was (are those people at the entrance part of it? is that dude getting out of his car? do i need to hide between cars?)

at least your brain was working in the midst of it. I can just imagine freezing behind a counter or something to scared to move

and then i'd gotten out to the edge of the parking lot (after having tried to get a ride with a couple different people) where i figured my biggest problem was not freezing in my cardigan as like a dozen cop cars whizzed dramatically in. shortly after i was offered and accepted a ride home from some nice women

who were just arriving to shop, saw the situation, saw me, and got the fuck out

cacopheny : i'd thought about it. a lot. it was the best place for a shooter to choose for maximum chaos, and my store is a women's clothing store, which is a potentially appealing target for a fuckwad with a gun, so i had a plan

cacopheny : it sounds like not! no official info yet, but the one victim was alive enough to be taken to hospital and have surgery, so fingers crossed

update on this: turns out only one person was shot bc it was business between them and the shooter. that person was the only intended victim and the shooter is in custody. i guess whatever that business was needed to be resolved in the fuckin mall food court men's room

a lot of people still have to live with knowing exactly what it's like to think you're running for your life

ugh that's awful. like slightly better than an ACTUAL shooting-everyone-in-sight event, but still firmly in the trauma department

yeah. we were never in danger, but we fully believed we were, and as far as moments that reshape your brain go, it still counts
