I still don't have a diagnosis for why mine were so bad I just gave up and went on birth control that stops then almost entirely

I've always had a litany of problems but my mid-late 30s marked the advent of fibroids and endometriosis so like...getting checked might not be a bad idea

Yeah, if you can find an gyno who will listen to you it's 100% worth it. Don't try to live with it for almost two decades like I did.
