there's a weird tension between "I make a comfortable salary and am financially privileged compared to most people I know" and "oh wow I'm even more underpaid for my specific job role than I thought."

I already knew I was well below market rate

in general I feel my company makes up for it with work culture (we're still huge on DEI, for one thing) and work-life balance

not to mention that I don't have to be in an office more than once or twice a year when so many other places are going RTO

but I could probably make at least 30% more if I jumped ship

I thought that was just kind of the way here... but now I found out that the person we're about to hire, in a slightly junior role vs. the one I've been doing for almost two years and four years into my tenure at this company is going to be making almost as much and possibly actually more than me

the real problem is that I didn't negotiate when I first started but I probably should have also negotiated more when I switched departments
