The same reason that Andrew Dice Clay, Sam Kinison, Joan Rivers, and Don Rickles had comedy careers... At that moment in time, they all hit a nerve in the zeitgeist. Mostly, they don't last long, and they def didn't age well.

I used to think almost all of those were funny when I was younger. Along with Ron White, and Jeff Dunham... Much less funny and still touring
