god I somehow forgot about Silco's self-waterboarding thing

on the second watch the scene when Jayce goes to see Mel and they talk in front of her painting and he tells her Viktor is dying hit me a LOT harder

on the first watch I think it just felt kind of funny/dumb/awkward how all over the place Jayce felt and how his relationship with Viktor was somehow being used to propel the hets when really neither relationship came off as particularly firm in its foundation at that moment

but on second watch 1. it feels much clearer that 'neither relationship is particularly firm in uts foundation at the moment' is in fact intentional as Mel lampshades both that she didn't realize Viktor and Jayce were that close as well as her confusion that Jayce thinks SHE and Jayce are that close

2. knowing Mel's deal better I feel like it hit me much more clearly how this was really like. the emotional vector point of Mel's arc

I still think her arc is relatively poorly-paced since even though she does pretty much state outright what her issue is in her introduction ( "you're the richest person in Piltover" "and yet I'm still the poorest Medarda" ) you really don't feel how she struggles with that until the last cour of the series

but it was like. she slept with Jayce because he was a means to an end and she wanted to solidify her influence over him. in the first place the reason she wants power and influence to live up to the Medarda name while also simultaneously wanting to live differently from it. the painting is that aspiration to prove herself. she woke up alone

and then Jayce shows up oblivious to all of this and goes "obviously I think us having sex meant we're in love and I trust you openly and completely and I think you can do anything"

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO ARTICULATE IT BETTER. I'm not explaining myself well. it got to me this time

sometimes pretty and dumb IS enough
