ahem. anyway. don quixote and emil sinclair could not be more opposite in their attitudes and even their respective canons are similar in that..... while sinclair is often called a baby bird yet to break out of his shell, neither "good" nor "bad" but a potential for both (callback to hermanns' demian which deals with it on a religious scale)
she's very bright and loud and never hesitates when it comes to protecting others, be it with her lance or throwing herself in harm's way, but sinclair is more mindful and hesitant, thinking before acting, and it's something he admits to admiring about her and that he wishes he could be the same
it's like. i described them once as the cheetah (sinclair) and dog (quixote) pair where cheetahs are paired with companion dogs because despite all their killer instinct they're quite nervous fellows
sinclair DOES have the capacity for violence and in such a tremendous way that when he sees red, nothing can stop him from wanting to end the life of the person or persons that'd made him see it in the first place (canto 3 w/guido and kromer)
but he prefers not to, and to reach an agreement without it, even though he's been noted by other sinners as having grown more of a spine as he stands up for himself and pushes first into things more often...
... because it's revealed in canto 7 that sinclair idolizes don and wants to be more like her, ever since she without hesitation thrashed him back to his sense where no one else could think of a way to stop him from stabbing a dead body over and over again in his ire
it's soooooo cute. ever since then they'd often been together, don's best friends on that bus are him and yi sang (who seems to admire don for similar reasons, her outspokenness and eager desire to befriend, to encourage others) and they're paired a lot in IDs... they have parallels that stretch for miles
anyway in canto 7 THIS IS WHERE THE REAL SPOILERS START!!!!!! in canto 7 it's revealed that the brave, selfless, justice-minded don quixote is merely a farce of the memory of her sire, the true don quixote, and the woman they'd come to know is named sancho, the second kindred embraced by him as she lay dying cold and alone...
sancho is... very logical and quiet, no-nonsense and doesn't ask for much. she never had anything to love in her first life, so she didn't seek to cling to it whatsoever. she found something to love in her second, which were the stories bari, a fixer, would tell don quixote, but overall sancho doesn't care much for others except for her sire
and for bari, who becomes important to her, which is important to note now. a lot of her hardened blood family arts resemble the same moves bari uses when initially fighting don quixote for three days straight
don quixote had three other children in his immediate family: dulcinea, a second kindred like sancho herself, and from her i suppose must have come nicolina and curiambro since sancho says she has no interest in kindred and never will since she doesn't want to be tethered to others and only to look forward
its this love for fixer tales and the dream don quixote had that bloodfiends like themselves and humans may coexist without harming the other that gave sancho a sparkle in her eye, a desire to live and learn beyond the day by day. that gave her and her father a tomorrow, which is actually what keeps them from falling into the same
while she was still a little brat to her sire as they adventured out (and inadvertally left the rest of the machegan vampires and their allies to starve, as they hadn't the same dream sancho and don quixote had but only created la manchaland, an amusement park where bloodfiends ran attractions for human guests and got along with them, out of love for dq
sancho did... love traveling, and seeing the way helping others made them smile, and so on and so forth. it nurtured a hopeless garden in her otherwise cracked and barren heart. this is all important "isn't this about sindon" it's all important
when they returned don quixote ended up forcing sancho to leave once more to continue venturing in his stead, because the bloodfiends of la manchaland had turned on the humans, on him, and his dream, and she didn't to -- she was ever his most loyal child, always at his side, and she wished to still be and to fight with him, but he forced her away regardless
and so she was made to go away with bari, the fixer who'd given them both that dream of goodwilled justice, of idealism and hope, of tomorrows... and in venturing around, sancho eventually asked to be led to the river of oblivion. of lethe, whose waters ran beneath and outside the city
whose waters were said to give a vision of the future to those who looked into it, but drive them mad and make them forget themselves if drunk from. sancho did so anyway, wishing to forget all that caused her ache now, and fell into a 200 year slumber
this is where sancho's story ended and don quixote's began, spending years idolizing fixers and become the person she was when she met everyone on the bus, and the person sinclair admired. but the thing is, as one of the others (hong lu) says, that don quixote and the sancho they followed deeper into the amusement park, they're still the same person
because even if sancho struggles to be as free as she wishes to be about things, due to her own nature and the way she's lived, she does feel all that her "role" feels. she was willing to throw it away to remain once more with her sire and her family after her memory was returned to her, since the world's a rotten place and "justice" has no place in it
but it was sinclair who stepped forward, without hesitation, to try and bring her back. not to her senses, because he doesn't want that, but back to them. because her dream had yet to end, her adventures had yet to end, and her place was with them as much as it had been with her sire centuries before
i told you it'd get back around. sniffs. in the plays across the acts of her canto a bloodfiend named sanson would have don quixote act out "her various adventures" including that of her time with the knight of the white moon, bari. the one put to oppose her in role here was also sinclair
which is sweet, and unlike the other sinners he doesn't have much of a problem getting into his role as her companion, and a lot of the lines he says feels as if he speaks them himself versus being simple lines in a play...
kosy and i played around a lot with their dynamic in citygame and we were RIGHT but it's. waves my hands. they're very important in a way to each other, pushing one another and keeping each other in a kind of check, inspiring and changing...
the amount of times they specifically hold hands is so. sniffling. two mentioned, and she clings to his arm when she's scared too, even if he damn well can't do anything and she's the strong between them fundamentally
they're really funny together too. like a comedy act. they play chess together and they sit beside each other on the bus (their numbers mark when they joined, so don joined first and far later on sinclair did) and they fight together in different scenes...
the three are such an odd group of friends because you just know she looked at these quiet motherfuckers after their cantos especially and went I Shall Befriend Them. bonus is they do all sit together
uugghh. op says the favorite thing about this canto was sindon's bond and i ahve to agree... it's not passionate the way heathmael is, or. looks at fausang. yearning. is the best way i can describe that. but it's very quiet and steady, it's grounding in a way that isn't necessarily
it's because sinclair admires donqui that he kept trying, stepping up and throwing himself more into things without thought, speaking up where he might have cowered before. like yes he still did it shaking but he still spoke up!!!!!!!
i think i'm done. i'll probably pop back in here to talk more every time i see my homescreen. but they're very sweet and fun and especially in this canto it feels like a good tie to canto 3, both dealing with returning to a burning home from which they were forced to leave, with spikes and resentment and memories resurfacing...
anyway her life as a second kindred and her nature as sancho is pretty much why she isn't entirely bothered by lappland's attitude on stuff, their desolation is much the same, she ended up finding something to love and live towards beyond the temporary pleasure of human blood but sancho still knows how it felt then
donqui has issues and if i didn't take her from canto 7 they would have a vastly different relationship but sancho really does see her as more of a rowdy young person at the moment. saying whatever she wants and doing as she pleases. sancho still doesn't have kindred but she considers the other sinners as "family" so she understands dq a lot now LMAO
comes back to this a moment. i said before donqui seems like she's already taken flight but sancho herself says she's nothing more than a baby bird too
she's only learning to fly NOW that she recalls all and has stepped back into the "role" of don quixote, to continue the dream she and her sire had, to adventure and live life, to be free to be who she wants to be... it's important to know that
sancho and don quixote aren't necessarily different people, it's more like acting as don quixote allows sancho to do that which she wouldn't be able to before because it was embarrassing or unlike her, and of course it's useful to hide her bloodfiend nature with rocinante. the shoes are staying on during sex
but sancho feels exactly as that "role" does, and it's best to think of it in the way that she's set aside who she was so she can become who she wants to now... at least until that illness all bloodfiends have, that make them crave human blood, knocks at her door eventually
she does "break character" sometimes in her announcer role so i'm really eager to see in upcoming events and cantos how she acts actually. but even at the end of hers you can tell she has a more steady sort of view when putting herself as she remembers and role she's accepted together
sighs... even if kosy doesn't app sinclair in december donqui will always hold him close in her heart, that's her designated human and person she loves very much, they became so close and entwined in a lot of ways in citygame and she's sincere about saying that her love was born from friendship and companionship in that way
someone who ever was at her side and wished to be and pushed through her attempts at trying not to cause him worry because he wanted to be worried, so on and so on
there won't ever be someone who comes close to him or her sire in that way, two people who ever reminded her that it isn't pain that is proof of life, that hurt isn't proof you exist, but something else...

dq says that his family is the strongest of the bloodfiends (whether true or not is debatable) but considering it was his intervention and allyship with the humans despite the humans disgust and distrust that won humans the war. he may have a point. and sancho is most certainly his first child i can tell by the way she acts...
she's super strong too... clenches fist... rebelled against her nature (children are adverse to disobeying their sire) and ended his festering existence, even starved he was so strong... thats an elder for you

she knows arknights vamps work differently so she doesn't quite hold him to the same hierarchy as she might others (cassetti was part of the machegan family too and for attempting to turn her into bloodbag she eviscerated him bc of filal piety)
but she would consider him beneath just bc she knows her rank is second highest in family dynamics. like theres no way hes an elder, maybe a second too, but more likely third and below

hmm the thing about lappland is... she's a 'lone wolf' who's been exiled from her famiglia. and other lupo/wolves are instinctively wary of her. but she was also kind of... basically... she never fit in and she hated her pack and she basically tried to destroy it and indirectly kill herself and... she has fucking issues.......
but in ~the most recent loredump SPOILERS~ the primordial wolf demi-god beast lords have been following her and she kind of holds power over them so. she kind of has a naturally unsettling/morbid aura and the power of those beast lords near her
SO. one of those beast lords is actually in sinf and is sponsoring her and somewhat haunting her. that aura is kinda his but also just plain hers for being... fucked up
