I am devastated.

My spouse and I may have just lost everything. 6 years he has poured into his PhD, we dropped everything to come to Ohio for it and now we'll be lucky if he ever gets a job.

He already gets death threats. Can't wait for more of those, or protecting his foreign colleague from hate crimes.

I can't pretend I'm okay. We were finally financially stable even to save money for the first time in our lives, but I'm sure it all goes to tuition now.

I don't know how I'll soothe his heartbreak or ever be friendly to my coworkers again. I don't want to go back to being friendly. I want them to understand just how badly they fucked up to make the most polite person in the room who always smiles reduced to the hateful shell i am today

But I'll soldier on. I always do.

I'll still post fun things I planned, because I was so looking forward to today. Creating a positive space and entertaining others is what I do.

But for now I just needed one space to air my grief. It wouldn't feel right to pretend I'm not.
