김지원은 '나의 해방일지' 속 염미정 역을 회상하며 "모든 것이 끝난 지금 미정은 내가 짐작했던 것보다 더 혼자였고 외롭고 고독한 사람이었다고, 더 깊이 참아낸 사람이라고 느낀다"고 밝혔다.

이어 '나의 해방일지'에 출연한 소감으로 "김지원이라는 사람이 지금껏 닿지 못했던 깊이와 넓이를 느껴보고 싶다는 마음으로 이 작품을 시작했고 투명할 만큼 솔직한 미정을 연기하며 나를 지키는 힘이 무엇인지 배울 수 있었다"고 말했다.

인터뷰를 마무리하며 김지원은 "내가 바뀌겠다고 한들 뜻대로 상황을 바꿀 수 있는 건 아니다. 그렇지만 내가 그렇게 하기로 마음먹었다는 것, 물살이 들어왔을 때 전처럼 뒤로 휩쓸려 가지 않고 계속 헤엄쳐 가겠다고 마음먹었다는 사실이 중요한 것 같다"고 행복에 관한 답을 전했다.
