Look at this Prehistoric Good Boi! https://imgs.plurk.com/QEF/8bM/aUIp3yLJWpzY3qBiVxSjICxP6Xc_lg.png The size of a medium-sized dog at most, a fierce little predator and probably had hair. But hims was a reptile!
tronja307020
Cynognathus!
papermint tiger
that definitely looks like the missing link between cats and dogs
papermint tiger
wild
tronja307020
Right??? They look so cute! You can definitely see how we got from reptiles to these and then to mammals!
Exacerangutan
iirc there's also a whole taxonomy/evolutionary biology thing of "ok but what even is a reptile anyways"
tronja307020
LOL I mean yeah. /gestures at dinosaurs, birds, and the whole divide between those things evolutionarily, and how the reptile classification fits in there!/
Exacerangutan
to some degree at least you can define reptiles as "vertebrates that aren't the other ones" (LOL)
tronja307020
lol right? There are at least some small differences, but when you really get down to it, the lines between the different classifications really can become kind of blurred at some points.

oh my god awwww
ʟʏʟɪᴛʜ
papermint tiger : "the missing link between cats and dogs"....Imo that would be hyenas :'>
runedwriting
very technically a synapsid would be. and the link between kangaroos and whales etc
papermint tiger
here's the thing about missing links: if you find one that just means there are more to find ;-)
papermint tiger
but yes hyenas are certainly one
tronja307020
Yep, everything is a missing link, tbh. XD But man, it makes looking at phylogeny trees fascinating!
ʟʏʟɪᴛʜ
ʟʏʟɪᴛʜ
runedwriting : what is the link between kangaroos and whales? O:
runedwriting
synapsids!
runedwriting
like that guy up there
runedwriting
we are aaaaalll synapsids
runedwriting
the existence of those lil guys and their cousins is why they completely redefined what 'reptile' means
Hooded Figure
what a CUTE
ʟʏʟɪᴛʜ
ohhhhh ok, ty!
tronja307020
Yeah, we can all trace our lineage back to this guy's relatives, and it's great!
