Re the Georgia shooting: the updated article now says the 14-year-old shooter has been named (but doesn't include the name) and will be charged with murder and tried as an adult.
No info on motive, but the police showed up fast (I'm sure everyone was feeling the pressure to be better than Uvalde) and the shooter surrendered on sight.
while there are legitimate situations in which it is appropriate for a child to be tried as an adult, I believe any such situation is by definition surrounded by enormous failures in the community life around that child
I'm feeling like odds are it's not a white kid if they're being this fast to asserting they'll be tried as an adult. Either that or they're 'poor white trash'
there are unfortunately a lot of people out there who believe that with severe enough crimes such as murder, then their age is irrelevant and that if they "do the crime, they should do the time"
people strongly objected to the county attorney in my area trying to offer plea deals to 15 year old kids who had been involved in murders because those plea deals didn't involve prison time, they involved probation with the threat of going to prison/detention if the juvenile violated their probation
