Devil's Tr◬in : Usually post-tropical cyclones, but yes! Hurricanes have hit the UK before.

Devil's Tr◬in : the current in the Atlantic to the west of Ireland is a NE Turning NW flow. this is why the Isles and Europe in general are more mild than one would expect. warm waters from the western Atlantic flows NE-ward

so yes, hurricanes can journey their way up the Atlantic like that. but are, generally, losing steam along the way and end up back at Tropical Storm or Tropical Depression levels more than full-on hurricanes. but it doesn't mean hurricanes can never happen. they can.

As an East coaster who grew up watching hurricane tracks, I've also seen them turn around once on land and head back out to sea. Those usually hit East Canada, but I think I've seen some head toward Europe.

Iirc, the remnants of the Spanish Armada got blown widely off course (a number of ships were wrecked on the rocks off Ireland and Scotland, and hundreds of sailors died) because of a hurricane/extratropical cyclone. That was the 1580s.
