okay I'm about to say the controversial thing that will get my nerd card revoked: I think doom's fucking silly. I think rdj is gonna have to work really, tremendously hard for me to take victor von god damn doom seriously. and I am aware that he's a big deal and a big scary villain who has done a lot of shit and has a huge storied history

but also make zemo bigger and make him the man in the iron mask and this is a character who has always been super not in the slightest bit intimidating to me lol

now I fully get why we replaced kang. and yes the legal issues are the big thing, but also, I don't think it's the worst move to go and make an avengers villain someone who's going to be introduced in one of the movies instead of one of the shows

I think it's fully part of feige seeing the clutter and the doing too much and the paring back and restructuring and while I would honestly love to see what kang dynasty would have been (recasting is a thing we've already done plus multiverse equals easy fix), it's a lot less time that needs invested by an audience

and also frankly an avengers villain someone that a much wider audience knows, and we are still playing with multiversal madness since...rdj

god I hope we get a number someday as to how much gd money was offered, I thought rdj was like done-done with the mcu lol

in other news I think FF First Steps is gonna be cute with the teases they've had, lady silver surfer has the potential to be very hot or just as silly-looking as any other silver surfer, I keep forgetting Thunderbolts(*, apparently) is supposed to be next year and I still think that character lineup is so so weird and confused

I get the idea behind thunderbolts, I really do, and it's a fun way to get some disparate not so golden characters together, and look we get to find out what happened to ghost, but half the characters are from black widow alone, and frankly if I wanted to watch this I'd just watch the good suicide squad movie, idk what I feel about it

no like I get he's also silly and camp (but also so was every single character who has ever existed in the comics, old comics just be weird and camp like that), but you're also asking me to take doom seriously as a big bad avengers-level threat and that's the part that strains my imagination

As in, Latveria is actually a pretty decent place to live, and most of the problems DOOM causes are a result of his megalomania and paranoia T-boning his genuine desire to create a better world?

Which does make him an interesting villain, I love a good well-intentioned extremist who wreaks havoc due to their own arrogance and distorted perspective! But personally, I do think that that sort of character works better as an Act 1 villain, before getting upstaged by someone seriously malicious.

Possibly even someone they, themselves, enabled in their misguided attempts at 'destroying society's ills'.

yeah like. look with f4 happening yes you are gonna need doom. but to make him a big avengers-headlining villain, even if some of the draw is that it's rdj, you have to put some work in man.

even if they're going to try and do what they were gonna with kang and go oh no an incursion of dooms and some of them are really fuckin bad (and then you can have a teamup with rdj doom and have people Act Weird about it icly!), you still have to work to make that feel like a threat beyond 'multiverses befuckened' which you can do with anyone at that point

also I have just realized, I had it wrong, kang dynasty isn't being replaced by doomsday, not necessarily. secret wars is now the big ultimate avengers movie, and doomsday is the penultimate one of this saga. damn. somehow I missed that.
