i think i get what you're putting down with battletech, like it wants to be armored core but unfortunately, like... FASA sure had FASA brain and both battletech and shadowrun are astoundingly stupid in their eagerness to be gritty
that said I will admit I was mixing things up when I called it magical girl; i mandela effect'd myself, it's just girls that are magical, not magical girl
utena absolutely employs magical girl tools to make its points, like it has transformation sequences and monster-of-the-day combat pacing despite the combats being anything but motd
i don't even like attack on titan but /shrug
