OOCly it had been a decade and I wanted to do something else I decided. I took most of Endwalker off to work on my career and shake off accumulated bad feelings after so long.

ICly given how everything wound up after Endwalker the brick joke paid off once more.

(similarly, if you see Nashira Rossi, that is me, ros is retiring for largely the same reasons)

Also, to explain for those who weren't there or do not remember because it's been years: Alexei was a Garlean deserter (his real name was Aulus Laetor) and he was an engineer before and during his military service in Doma and briefly Ala Mhigo. I also didn't feel like leveling crafter back then to make gear.

So the running gag became that ICly his FCmates would keep asking him to like, make Garlean tech and he would exasperatedly explain he was a trained civil engineer and architect, so unless they were asking him to design infrastructure or buildings he wasn't that kind of engineer.

This led to some OOC joking when we got to Garlemald in Endwalker and you have that whole sidequest about trying to get that one ceruleum power station back online that someone probably approached him and he was about to launch into his whole tirade again about there being multiple kinds of engineers.

And then he heard what they needed and was like, "oh. Actually... yes, I am that sort of engineer."

So yeah my IC explanation is that Alexei gave up adventuring because well, most of his family is certainly dead, given how they were tied into the military or were nobles and how all that went down in the capital, and he doesn't have to hide who he is anymore. He has a teenaged son from his first marriage who needs family real badly.

And his homeland is fucked in a way that his skillset would be immensely useful in the rebuilding of. Man retired inasmuch as he's not off killing monsters anymore, he's probably busier than he was as an adventurer.

Meanwhile Ros took the kids to their private island and of course she comes to help but you know, she wants them (and the teenager) to grow up in the sort of peace and comfort she and alexei never had.

probably ends up touring them around Eorzea some as the twins get older since I think they're Toddlers rn but she's a craftsbunny she's definitely using her contacts to funnel supplies to Alexei
