Oh, and this one is tough because it's a cancer that has well and truly metastasized but can we please just push the history eraser button on the specific twin themes of
1: The Light Side and the Dark Side are supposed to coexist to create balance (nonsensical, stupid, totally ignorant of the philosophy the Force was based on), and 2: The Jedi are the Real Bad Guys pursuant to point 1
Can we please let it go? I know, I know, the inner thirteen-year-old edgelord who wants to revel in being antisocial loves it, but yes, actual unironic good people are real and not mythical
I don't think the Jedi are supposed to be the bad guys, just occasionally fallible. But what's wrong with the "balance" stuff? I like it as a theme and I thought it was there as far back as the prequels so idg the objections.

it's not "balance" itself being opposed, it's the idea of balance coming from combining the Dark Side and a "Light Side". Originally, it was just "Dark Side" and "Balance". Balance itself was the good side
I disliked what Ahsoka's story did to the Jedi (I disliked a lot about TCW, unpopular opinion elemental go) but like. No. As portrayed, she is not a "grey Jedi"
Just because you don't believe in Jedi asceticism doesn't mean you've allowed the Dark Side into your heart. Ditto for believing that there are structural problems with the order
Yoda: Hey, this kid doesn't seem like he's in a good emotional place to become a Jedi, he's got some issues Qui-Gon: I'mma train him anyway Obi-Wan: Qui-Gon's dying wish was for Anakin to be a Jedi Yoda: Seems like a bad idea, he's not a good fit Obi-Wan: I'mma train him anyway Anakin: Falls to the dark side The fandom: THIS IS YODA'S FAULT Yoda: BITCH?
Like, in the alternate universe where Qui-Gon isn't an arrogant moron, Anakin gets adopted on Coruscant, becomes an insanely successful and talented pilot, and frees his mom basically the day he becomes an adult
AND ALSO PALPATINE DOESN'T HAVE HIS PERFECT SECRET WEAPON
All because when Anakin came to Yoda for advice on how to deal with Padmé potentially dying, he gave him the very Jedi advice of not to cling to the physical and know that those you love will always be with you in the Force.
As ever, the woobifiers have to make their precious sympathetic bad guy be a good guy so they pretend they have no agency and just make everybody around them the villain for not accomodating their needs even more than they already did
I always disliked the woobifiers who refused to accept that a person can be sympathetic and also the bad guy, but developing Azula brainrot a fascination with a character who got subjected to that shit by the fandom REALLY threw it into overdrive
To the point that, if I read correctly, when they tried to introduce a merely morally-neutral faction the fandom rioted until they got retconned into a brainwashing cult.
meh it feels like hair-splitting to me whether it's light/dark vs. balance/imbalance; my perception of it is still that Dark rising is what throws the Force out of balance, but also that there just is a Dark side that exists no matter what.
That mindset is compatible with the "Light side should be equal to the dark side" view of balance. It is not compatible with the "The Dark Side IS imbalance" view of balance
The fandom largely liked the Tau as they were apart from some memeing, but yes, everyone is terrible, but the point I'm making is that you don't need all fiction to be morally consistent with your real world beliefs because they're stories and people need to remember that
(To revisit the balance thing: The actual answer is that "bad things" are not the Dark Side, they're inevitable. It's refusing to accept that that usually leads to the Dark Side)
and 99 times out of a hundred, I just ignore them. This was just a case of someone being loudly wrong while also insulting people, and it got on my nerves
I had to learn to embrace that I was just Unpopular Opinion Elemental when it came to Star Wars because I really enjoyed the prequels back when that was Not The Done Thing on the internets
lmao I saw the prequels as a teen/young 20something and it was so cringe to me then but I like them a lot better now. I bet my kids will defend the sequels with their entire souls bc they attached to them as toddlers.
...I do still think less of people who say "STAR WARS WAS ONLY TWO MOVIES AND MAYBE A COUPLE BOOKS AND NOTHING ELSE BECAUSE THE EXISTENCE OF SMALL CUTE ALIENS ENRAGES ME" which is an unironic take that I still see floating around from time to time
There's a certain type of fan who is just so gratuitously edgy and tryhardy. Who thinks every comic book story should be a Batman vs Joker story where the Joker is implied to have a point, who thinks every Transformers toy should be black and grey and maybe red, who thinks the new God of War games ruined the franchise... And I admit.
Because the message is implicit. Joy is bad. Morals are bad. Integrity is bad. Women and children are bad. Everything should appeal to my desire for grim apathetic misery and tryhard violent rage and literally nothing else.
Like full disclosure I do find Rey a little boring personally but then when I say that most places on the internet I inevitably am met with a chorus of "YEAH FUCK DISNEY FOR PUTTING WOMEN IN STAR WARS" and I just-
And anytime I see a ton of hate coming down on The Acolyte I'm like, okay, if you don't like it because of xyz reason that's your right, but I would really really examine whether or not you're being harder on it because Amandla Stenberg is an afab nonbinary Black lesbian.
I'm glad I gave you that impression at the least. I find Luke very compelling, in kinda the same way I find Superman compelling. I just like putting Good Goodman in tough moral spots
omg he is like a cat. Constantly craves attention and validation. Appreciates compliments for his shitty behavior. Brings home the things he's murdered...
I'm hoping Saber Interactive is going to really focus on it once they've got Space Marine 2 out the door ... industry rumor is that the KotOR remake is still with them after they escaped Embracer.
I’ve got… Siri Tachi and a half a dozen+ different AUs and canon points, Breha Organa, Mara Jade, Mirax Terrik, three different Jaina Solo journals for different canon points, Revan, the Jedi Exile pre-and-post exile, plus a bunch of others. Plus my Star Wars tabletop OC.
Dude, I will either icon the game for you or if there's someone you think would make a good face for him I will hook you up there, too. /SHAMELESS ENABLING
I never found a good face for him, I sort of settled with somebody at one point but immediately decided I hated him as Atton so I can't stand my current icons
Who was he? I can see if I can find someone else who's similar but better? I don't have the catalogue of sci fi/modern PBs the way I do for fantasy/period piece PBs, but I can sure as hell see who I can find.
2: The Jedi are the Real Bad Guys pursuant to point 1
also, coincidentally, why the whole "gray jedi" thing has always irked meQui-Gon: I'mma train him anyway
Obi-Wan: Qui-Gon's dying wish was for Anakin to be a Jedi
Yoda: Seems like a bad idea, he's not a good fit
Obi-Wan: I'mma train him anyway
Anakin: Falls to the dark side
The fandom: THIS IS YODA'S FAULT
Yoda: BITCH?
but YEAH, THEY HAD RESERVATIONS FROM LITERALLY DAY ONE
AND ALSO PALPATINE DOESN'T HAVE HIS PERFECT SECRET WEAPON
which Yoda was in fact right about, since Anakin's attachment is literally what caused Padme's death in the first placewell, that and some admittedly silly writingNO I AM NOT STILL PISSY ABOUT THE AZULA STANS SHUT UPlike, people are very often more than one thing, and also it's okay for a fictional character to not follow your personal beliefs on morality
Azula brainrota fascination with a character who got subjected to that shit by the fandom REALLY threw it into overdriveWomen and children are bad.Everything should appeal to my desire for grim apathetic misery and tryhard violent rage and literally nothing else.No. Shut up. No. Go away please.
I find Luke boring af personally
I see how it is.
and hug her damn brotherso like Ithrow another person that believes in the good in people at AzulaI do, functionallyOr did, I don't play him anymoreI DON'T HAVE ICOOOOOOOONS
