That Black Cat
Remember when Twinkies got discontinued for like a year and then they came back and no everyone acted like nothing happened?
What was up with that?
Tillie
What's Twinkies?
That Black Cat
Ah, sometimes I forget I don't have just americans on my timeline
That Black Cat
Twinkies are a treat we have in the US. They're individually packaged spongecakes filled with sweet crème.
That Black Cat
I guess the technical term for the "crème" is "creamy filling"... methinks it doesn't technically qualify as "crème"
That Black Cat
Tillie
Tillie
Is the filling similar to those? https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/71/Schaumkuss-1.jpg/1200px-Schaumkuss-1.jpg
That Black Cat
maybe? That looks more like marshmallow
That Black Cat
it's like... creamed sugar they pipe into these little cakes
That Black Cat
they're tasty, but pretty notoriously bad for you. The movie Zombieland had a whole subplot about Twinkies because at the time they were lauded as one of the only things that could survive an apocalypse because of how many preserves and stuff there are in them.
Tillie
But marshmallows are not 'wet', right? That stuff in what I posted is a bit liquid, you can use a knife and spread it on a bun.
That Black Cat
ohh. maybe then!
That Black Cat
whatever it is it looks tasty. I could eat a box of those
That Black Cat
here, this is a better look at what they're actually like
People love Twinkies, but don't eat them
bluecake
I remember it was something like the union for the workers that made them went on strike because the company was raiding their pension or something, and they tried to spin it as "They want to take twinkies away!" and conservatives pushed the spin.
Tillie
Yah, looks the same, Twinkie has it even more liquidy, it looks like.
That Black Cat
yeah, it's definitely more of a filling.
That Black Cat
conservatives always frame things like that. it's super annoying
That Black Cat
what's the name of the treat you linked? I kinda wanna try one
That Black Cat
I'd say twinkie filling is closer to like... frosting.
Tillie
Schokokuss (chocolate kiss).
Tillie
No idea how i'd be named where you are. It had a different name years ago, but due to political correctness and anti-racism it got renamed.
Tillie
Ok, in Canada it's apparently called "whippet cookie".
That Black Cat
oh cute! I like that name
Tillie
But it's less than half the height there.

That Black Cat
ah yes, on a cursory google search, Schokokuss are labeled as "marshmallow treats"
That Black Cat
so for us, I think the equivalent might be a "moon pie" though that's more of a sandwich but the same basic concept
Tillie
Also it looks like the chocolate outside is thicker, and also the base is different.
Tillie
The base is usually a large-squared pale waffle.
That Black Cat
ooh. that sounds lovely

Tillie
But!
Tillie
This is just the base version
MooseChangerPat
I think I heard them referred to as tea cakes
Tillie
They come with white chocolate, with a coat of cocos, and different fillings, like a darker cream and stuff.
Tillie
There's boxes with like 6 different ones.
MooseChangerPat
the whippets that is
Tillie
That's like baker made ones, that's why they do not have the round cone shape. But look at them: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4a/Schokokuss_1_fcm.jpg

That Black Cat
man now I want sweets
That Black Cat
those gourmet ones look fantastic
Tillie
You need to eat them rather fresh, cause they don't have a zillion stuff in them like the twinkies.
That Black Cat
they almost look like they're on like stroopwafel or something
Tillie
Almost. The waffle is really light and airy.
That Black Cat
man, sometimes americans actually miss out on good snacks
That Black Cat
anyway the whole OP was me watching this:
Cooking With Twinkies!
I'm sorry for the food gore.
