“I have wanted to call you since October 6 and tell you how sickened I was and talk about how I blind I have been to antisemitism. In my little world of being a Christian and an American and a white person it was the past, an evil past that was far away.
I honestly have never met anyone who had bad thoughts about someone being Jewish. I thought we are all one nation and yes there are stupid people in our country who don’t like anyone that wasn’t like them but to me it seemed like those people were just ignorant cartoonish people to be ignored or pitied. I was wrong”
You want to know something funny? We don’t really talk a lot about this kind of thing because we know where we stand. I think the only couple of times I tried to go “hey you know maybe your life experience might not be universal and people aren’t just “whining” for no reason” it devolved immediately. Most recent in our hellish January brawl
I think the other two times were about abortion WHICH KINDA cemented my idea of “oh hey if you are making decisions in the OR because my husband is too upset maybe I shouldn’t be having bio kids”
(What do you mean, every daughter in law likes to hear that their life is disposable and that if it’s the mom or the child, you always save the life of the child. And both dying is totally preferable to an abortion because that way no one goes to hell!)
okay actually that linked sucked, lemme just summarize. People from Harvard, UPenn, and MIT testified in front of the House about antisemitism issues on their campuses and did not do a very good job, so Reps are going to investigate it further.
"I hope texting didn't ruin what I was trying to say. I was living my life unaware that antisemitism wasn't just a thing in the past and I am sorry that I was wrong about it"
part of me cynically thinks she might have come across criticism of Israel's current activity in Gaza and gone [butterfly meme] THIS MUST BE THAT ANTISEMITISM THING I'VE HEARD ABOUT
(anybody who could write "I thought we were all one nation except for a few easily disregarded stupid people" with a straight face after the last ten years baffles me)
I was wrong”
