alarming questionable habits of mine: saying "flavored" when i really mean "scented" and thus giving people the mistaken impression that i eat things like soap and candles
for a price
I do this constantly
for a price
also in reference to like. deodorant and toilet cleaner
Mrs Sheepie
my wife and i do this for things that very much aren't food or even edible
Mrs Sheepie
occasionally we use it to refer to texture

is it any consolation to know that some cosmetics companies do the same thing? like at least lip balm is meant to go on your lips, but I have a couple of lip balms from this one brand that always claim they're flavored, but they are only scented
Cirape
ill do that too
فك يو
lip balm that's scented but not flavored is pointless, so says i

It's true, I'm currently wearing lip balm that smells like a spiced latte, but it doesn't taste like anything
Ptriciadactyl
a disappointment

I do this too, and love the occasional weird look I get for it.
🎄Misteltein
Oh I am guilty of this too

a whole entire plurk of candle-eaters <3
SPOILER ALERT
sounds like something a soap-eater would say
BethampHATamine
I also use -flavored as a genre signifier. That's fantasy-flavored. This is science-flavored.

if we could eat scented candles i would buy way more
floofdoodle
I do this all the time. I don't think I use the word 'scented' unless it's on the label in big print
Cirape
look if it smells like something i can eat my brain defaults to food terms
فك يو
especially if it's scented like food things! i like baking-/sweets-related scents and fruits-related scents so much more than stuff like florals
فك يو
i'm wearing vanilla chai latte body cream right now and it actually does smell like vanilla chai
E.S. Levi
To be fair, scent is actually a huge part of what we consider taste!
E.S. Levi
The actual sense of 'taste' is very simplistic, all the nuance of flavor comes from it combining with scent.
Cirape
scent and taste are very connected
Cirape
i can taste some smells. and an uncle of mine lost his sense of taste when he lost his sense of smell in a crash
E.S. Levi
Yeah, if I'm breathing through my mouth, I can 'taste' smells/smell them with my mouth!
Cirape
they have to be strong scents for me to taste them, but its really kinda interesting
E.S. Levi
I can usually taste the smell of cooking food.
E.S. Levi
And, for all the claims that humans don't have a vomeronasal organ (the organ associated with the flehmen response), when I taste smells it's mostly with the roof of my mouth, rather than my tongue?
Cirape
same
E.S. Levi
It sure does seem a lot like how literature describes the vomeronasal organ/reason for the flehmen response, doesn't it?
فك يو
it's very weird because i know this objectively but at the same there are so many things i kind of like the smell of that i would absolutely hate the taste of, so they feel much more divorced from each other in my mind
E.S. Levi
Well, it's not like taste doesn't add anything to it. Bitterness, for example, comes across very differently to the tongue than it does to the nose (or roof of the mouth).
Cirape
sometimes the actual taste doesnt match the smell-taste. my kitty litter tastes like mint when im smelling it. bet it doesnt taste that way
E.S. Levi
.......Why do you know what the kitty litter tastes like?
Cirape
i do not
Cirape
i am just willing to bet it aitn minty fresh
