microsoft is being Bad. basically - banning third party controllers from xbox. unlicensed ones. like, you know. other companies adaptive controllers.

it's... kind of a double-edged sword. on one hand, it's going to help curb cheating in games - it's an issue in games like Overwatch for xims on console which use a controller to plug into so people can use kbm in a controller game. on the other hand... cheaper controllers won't be a thing for xbox.

yeah... it's double edged, but. i really dislike the idea of removing the possibility, even if. cheating. is a thing.

mostly not just cheaper controllers, but non-licensed fightsticks, for example. and it seems they're only verifying wireless controllers...

i play overwatch on ps and it's incredibly frustrating in console lobbies to have cheaters because they aren't good enough to be in pc lobbies. i wish there was another way though since 3rd party accessories are usually leagues cheaper than official.

since either way some things will fake their ID

(perhaps that's why they're only allowing wireless-only stuff? since usually wireless adaptors can't get firmware updates)

and by option in the backend i mean like. 'okay you can use x controller except in these games, it'll tell you when you boot up game' so people playing single-player games can still use their cheaper/already brought controllers

another issue is bootleg controllers as well ofc, like. from amazon. (LOTS OF THOUGHTS HERE but i do agree the cheating is something that needs to be considered)

yeah i wish they could too. the xim shit is what makes ablot of console players mad and they hook through the controller iirc

as someone who never plays multiplayer games, I'd be pissed as fuck if I was suddenly banned from using a third party controller cause some people cheat in other games.

money. they lose out on their $60+ or whatever it is for a controller. ps5 ones are like $80 for official ones, idk if there's any 3rd party ones.
