Kid: so we had an active shooter drill today.
Me: I know, I saw the email.
Kid: and so I thought when it happened the “shooter” was just getting ready so I followed him and my teacher yelled at me that I had just been shot and I had to lay down.
Me: okay well pay attention when they say “active shooter”
Kid: it was a whole thing.

Yeah I'm a school tech, and fun fact. They don't teach the techs any is the lockdown procedures. So an entire department basically teaches new people that is you hear about lock down, find the nearest door (or window if it's real) and gtfo.

but why would she be following this person at all?

maybe she thought everyone was supposed to be wherever the scenario was going to start?

man, yeah, Em's had had an absolute panic a couple times over not being told about active shooter drills

can't imagine going to school in this day and age... tho to be fair we had earthquake and nuclear strike drills when i was a kid

we had bomb threat evacuations. not drills, actual threats (though thankfully no actual bombs). and once an anthrax scare

we had several bomb threats, those would involve a lot of "ok I'm just leaving campus and I know my parents will back me up, bye" and I remember one active shooter drill I remember thinking was the stupidest thing

this was mostly because their plan was to just bring everyone out to the football stadium and no one seemed to grasp that publicizing this could just make for a bunch of sitting ducks

it's so much to deal with
