They make you fill out vital government paperwork while in the complete newborn fog. This is a bad idea.

This is about the fact that I almost entered the wrong birth date when applying for Gavin's birth certificate/SIN

So now I wonder if it would be better for a nurse/midwife to do it, or for government officials to be sent in to put all this stuff in themselves while sitting in the corner and not being in the way or passing out and being a nuisance during the whole "giving birth" thing

I think historically it was the father who was chiefly responsible for this stuff

akinoame : Sensible in some ways, but the nurse doing it is how my mother ended up with her middle name being spelled the way it is most commonly in America, not the way my grandmother intended. And mom's middle name is my first name, except mine is spelled the other way

This situation is how my SIL left the hospital with no name except 'Girl', because both parents were too brain fogged to settle on a final choice of name.
