Bite The Hand by boygenius has been stuck in my head all day and it's so easily applicable to a LOT of things, but today I'm feeling the mutual Jod <-> multiple of the OG crew/our MCs tension and mulling on it
(It works especially well for at the moment: "I can't touch you, I wouldn't if I could. I can't love you how you want me to." But also "Your hands are gravity while my hands are tied" "Who do you think you are? Who do you think I am? (...) Maybe I'm afraid of you. I'll bite the hand that feeds me..." IT WORKS ON BOTH SIDES.
Like, when you know it's about fame/the weirdness of being a celebrity and how fans relate to you, it's pretty transparent, but it makes SUCH a good metaphor for a lot of relationships.)
"If I was Atlantis and you were the sea I'd sneak up behind you and break your knees I'd cut off your fingers and both of your feet So you couldn't reach me, but you couldn't leave (...) And every doctor that drew my blood could find no explanation Maybe it's a virus, maybe it's love Or just my imagination
The only problem with Atlantis is that it has exactly the same meter and very similar rhyme scheme (totally different melody and actual rhythm!) to Your Song so I try to go from Phoebe's first line ("If I was a painter...") and sing "but then again no" to the melody. I could probably keep it up for a little while lol)

: ooh Aurora's another one of those that I keep finding songs by randomly but don't follow avidly -- and I really should. This IS good (and just a really pretty, eerie song). It's making me think of someone/something else too, or someone(s) else, but I can't figure out who it is. Although it does remind me of Haunting of Hill House
i love the enhanced playlist function on spotify because i can turn that on and it will throw new songs on my playlists according to the Vibes and then i can accept or reject them so that's how i've been lucky enough to stumble into some very good shit lol
YES. i've had good luck with that too! (also, occasionally, going to artists' pages and seeing what playlists THEY'VE put up -- the ones on justin/crywolf's page have good stuff, for instance).
that and the fact that my partner somehow finds really good obscure shit -- we don't ALWAYS overlap in taste, but often we do, so we share back and forth
ooh i should look at crywolf's playlists.... one of his songs came up on an unrelated mix because he shows up on my old dubstep playlists i have on youtube and now i'm like i need to go deeper and listen to all the more obscure tracks again lol
yeah it’s funny, I didn’t get into him as particularly an edm artist more than anything, and actually (although there is some of that) his own playlists aren’t crazy electronic either, but it is HARD to convince any algorithm that he belongs in a playlist that isn’t dubstep or edm
I did get really into a few songs by bands that don’t exist anymore by artist-personal-likes type playlists, but ah well, could happen with Spotify recs too tbf
yeah it's hard to define him as any one genre but i wouldn't call him a strictly edm artist either as someone who listens to A LOT lol he ends up on a lot of melodic dubstep mixes because that's all interesting beats/synth effects and haunting vocals so the boxes get checked lol
yeah, like. i like a lot of the melodic dubstep and other associated genres that have come to me via listening to him but sometimes i'm just like "okay, so i can't get the algorithm itself to put any of the artists he put on a playlist WITH HIMSELF, and if i try to make a playlist for what i want right now i'll take 4 hrs"
(i do have like a "what is my mood right now" playlist where i just dump stuff from off my suggested playlists into one, and then i take it all off and do it again when it shifts, sometimes)
(meanwhile jess MOSTLY listens to edm and ...idk what genre it is, like. apocalyptic synth/electronic/dance music fronted by haunted dudes, badass or possibly murderous girls and enbies who could fall into either or both categories, lol. which i mean, again, i love iamx and patrick wolf and the birthday massacre, we do not DISAGREE on this
they used one of my favourite tori amos songs on yellowjackets earlier and sometimes listening to my favourite album of hers kickstarts my writing brain because i used to listen to it when i was a kid before i knew what any of the lyrics meant lol
"very sapphic ladies" made me think of her because i went to one of her shows once with my brother and he was the only cis dude there the entire crowd was lesbians and enbies and trans folks lmao
lollll that seems about right which song was it? i haven't listened to her in a while but actually, that might inspire a similar reaction (and i, helpfully, made an entire playlist once of "shit i used to listen to when i was 16". which WAS old enough to understand the lyrics, but maybe not quite as well as i do now lol)
oooh i love both of these. and i haven't watched yellowjackets! i can't remember if it's because i don't have whatever it's on OR if it's because it was one of those shows that was too depressing to convince the fam of and i haven't until recently had a lot of time on my own to watch things. but i THINK it's the network and my lack of piracy knowledge lol
But also "Your hands are gravity while my hands are tied"
"Who do you think you are? Who do you think I am? (...) Maybe I'm afraid of you. I'll bite the hand that feeds me..."
IT WORKS ON BOTH SIDES.
I'd sneak up behind you and break your knees
I'd cut off your fingers and both of your feet
So you couldn't reach me, but you couldn't leave
(...)
And every doctor that drew my blood could find no explanation
Maybe it's a virus, maybe it's love
Or just my imagination
I'd sneak up behind you and set you free"
(yeah I think so)
