and as far as empathizing and understanding go Yuki is actually much faster to unpack his shit enough to acknowledge and empathize with Kyo

also even as early as like. the somen episode I think it felt like Yuki did have some emotional understanding/resonance with Kyo's position. but it kind of just was like

yes he is trapped we are all trapped all of our futures could be taken away from us at any moment by virtue of the curse

I think what this person is actually imagining is like Yuki reaching out to have an open conversation about it with Kyo but

I think there's 3 points I'm tangled up in here 1. the implied conflation of empathy with being nice about it even though it is partly out of empathy and understanding that Yuki DOESN'T dramatically shift his behavior towards Kyo, because that would be fucking weird for both of them.

if Yuki started being nice to Kyo while Kyo was still stuck in the place of needing him as a target to displace his own misery and self-hatred it would literally do nothing to help Kyo

2. the way the conclusion of this meta post was "isn't it fucked up how these two characters have similar issues and this one didn't want to bond over it" WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER ONE NOT WANTING TO BOND OVER IT???

like they at least acknowledge Yuki wasn't actually really in a position to help Kyo WHICH ALSO GOES BOTH WAYS. KYO WAS NOT REALLY IN A POSITION TO HELP YUKI

in general I feel like furuba fandom often doesn't understand like. dudes. masculinity as a concept in the series

in order to have a conversation like this they would have to work through a lot of shit first. which they ARE working through but by series end they are not there yet

I think it was ultimately kind of cowardly of Takaya to put basically the entire onus of "it's also ok for boys to cry" on Yuki (and I guess Ritsu arguably) and then characters like Kyo and Hatori get "here's a girl to cry for you as proxy"
