Watching the season finale of WOT again, this time with commentary by Brian Sanderson and a couple of BookTubers.

Watching it again, there's a whole lot that annoys the hell out of me.

Like why does Perrin just walk around and stare at things? Why isn't his arc not him coming to terms with his anger and darkness and channeling it into being a goddamn badass who dominates on the battlefield?

Why is Matt such a wet noodle instead of being the cool strategist? Why does he not get the cool past memories and the spider-sense and instead get a half-assed cosplay weapon? He literally ties a knife to a pole instead of getting his signature weapon and powers.

Why isn't the hunt for the Horn of Valere a thing in this series? Why should I care that Mat blows on it at the end? Who are these people who show up when he blows it?

Why should I care about Nynaeve at all? I mean after that killer episode in the arches, why does she not have any arc at all? Yes she has a block, why doesn't she get over it at all?

I mean all she does in the end is stand around and stare uselessly at the others doing things.

If I could re-write it, I'd have had the Rand and Egwene meeting go as it was. Mat comes in and engages Ishamael, saving Rand, but then gets tricked and the stabbing happens as is. Then Egwene wakes up and puts up her shield. Then Perrin arrives just as she falters, saves her. Then Nynaeve and Elayne show up.

Having saved Elayne earlier and overcoming her block, she links with Egwene and raises the shield again. Elayne, not being Nynaeve's equal, she can't heal Rand, so she instead BONDS him as a Warder save him. He wakes up and the whole "Who are you?" scene plays out.

The Moiraine stuff happens as it does (at least against the ships), and Rand is freed. He gets up and he explodes in anger, causing the Dragon in the Sky stuff to happen, and bringing down fire on the Forsaken. Ishamael puts up his own shield against it, but Rand surprises him with the white hot blade to the heart.

Though I think this may mean they are dumping the Cadsuane character. It would make sense since she's really just Moiraine part 2.

Were They Worth It? | The Secret Projects, A Year of...

As someone who has never read a Sanderson book outside of the WoT novels, I keep wondering if this set is worth picking up at this point. I'm kind of hesitant to start any of his big series and from what I understand these are standalone. Tempted to try them out.

I am really disappointed by The Changeling. My god another "mystery box" pile of BS. Not sure if the book gives closure and they just botched the break up of content for the sake of leaving something for season 2, but this firs season is just so fucking empty and devoid of satisfaction for me.

Ugh. Really pissed off. What a waste.

Bothered so much and I pulled up book reviews/spoilers. Looks like there's a good portion of people who feel like it's similar to how I feel about season 1. That there's a lot of thin worldbuilding for poor payoff.

Somehow I feel that they didn't cook this season long enough and that they tried to stick tot he structure of the book too much (reviews say that the book moves from magic realism to fairy tale to creature feature), instead of realizing that you need to pay off some of these questions you drop.
