the reason is that the actual hotel they filmed the interior shots in has a room 217 but not a room 237

and they were afraid that if they made it room 217, people would be too scared to book room 217

is one of the worst business decisions I've ever heard

you'd be able to charge EXTRA for booking room 217

That room would be booked year round

people would go on PILGRIMAGES to room 217
