[youtube] I'm gonna be lowkey til tonight but taking a brief break to make a petty complaint

maybe it's cuz i'm getting older but man I'm getting tired of video essays on 'why x is bad' and then x is either an indie cartoon, a niche cartoon, or someone's completely independent passion project that isn't even remotely mainstream

like yeah sometimes there's just STRAIGHT UP BAD MEDIA like i will listen to any lindsay ellis style 3 hour critique taking about shit like HP

but so many of them nowadays are just 'this is bad cuz i don't like it and here's why'

WHICH LIKE FINE AND HONESTLY VALID and I simply just do not have to click on it, which i've stopped doing lately

but i'm like damn sure is wild why original content doesn't get made nowadays

anyone who gets remotely a bit of attention with their personal projects just gets ripped to shreds because they didn't do Everything Perfectly Immediately

it's just like, you can critique things without being an asshole

but it sure is wild that every time a new thing comes out the creators just get buried under people telling them how they should write their own thing lolol

i genuinely always remove those kinds of videos from my youtube feed because i simply do not care to hear someone complain about something for 30+ minutes or MORE.

it also angers me as a person who loves critical views of things bc like

it isnt constructive in any way and it's actually shit criticism

"this didnt make me happy" is a legit feeling but terrible critique

and it is part of the reason why perfectly good media has gotten such a shit reception

i will never stop blaming these No-Thoughts critiques for why Netbop was so highly "criticized" bc its not like anyone was against it for ethics reasons or "netflix is a shitty company that doesnt pay its teams well enough" it was all 100% "Netflix didnt make this to MY tastes and a 1-for-1 shot remake and spike should be white"

the idea that people have gotten so into this culture of being so bold as to think their absolutely thoughtless, disrespectful, inconsiderate shitting on of things counts as legitimate critique is fucking awful
