there's a kind of anime that's sfw but I still find kind of interestingly, uniquely off-putting

and it's stuff that's like... not exactly a fetish?

but it seems like the author really likes one specific character/relationship trope

to the point that they make the presence of that trope, the entire plot

like that anime people were briefly into a while back where the hapless unlucky guy had a cool and strong girlfriend and the whole plot was going "look! she's confident and good at sports!" over and over

or modern shows like "My Tiny Senpai", which is about a guy who has a girl at work he likes, and - get this - she's really short

or "The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses"

some of these i can excuse because they're adapted from like... web/twitter manga where the author is basically just banging out sketchy comics of their OCs and it happens to get popular so imo the standards there are different

that does make sense

but then you get stuff that's either anime original or is adapted from full length serialized manga and it's like. hm. i feel like i shouldn't be in the room for this one

it juts feels weird to get like, dozens of people involved in the production of it

this is only for the creator

tiny senpai is one of those web manga ones and like... i think it's charming enough in a breezy, 4koma comic sort of way where it doesn't need to be super deep because the chapters are so short

but adapting it to an anime REALLY emphasizes how shallow and poorly fleshed out it is

but god forbid anime producers not make The Most Possible Money on every possible property this season ig

it really comes down to, just

make less anime

we have too much

yet another idle question where the answer is 'we must dismantle capitalism'
