He gets his rifle destroyed for his troubles and left i ln the dust, but it's an interesting change for a start

We get hints that Durandal is doing something hinky when the Archangel gets in contact with the Minerva, but Durandal goes out of his way to make sure Cagalli won't speak up, despite showing that she's onboard

during the final moments of the drop, the terrorist Sato shows up to give his manifesto, and dies burning up in re-entry, not a fight to be had.

the Team and Minerva crew managed to lessen the damage considerably, but enough has been done to further Djibril's agenda.

Now, a change that makes things much more fun for the narrative.

So now, instead of watching his family get killed by ms combat, Shinn had to watch his family die to the Invaders, which is magnitudes worse
