why are we saying hyperrealism isnt art. what the hell. i get that its annoying they only ever draw pretty girls and water droplets but that doesnt mean its invalid as an art form??? or even that its not impressive??? what is going on

sometimes it feels more like craft than art but its very impressive

As an artist (kinda), I admire the technical skill and patience it takes, but as an art it's kind of meh. Cause changes, shortcuts, exaggerations you do in a paintings is an inseparable part of visual art. A plain portrayal of a reality, as is, starts to loose the meaning of art.

I kinda agree with the first person that it's a poor taste art. In the same vain people enjoy AI art, which can have a nice technical fidelity, but it looses the purpose of art. With hyperrealism, it's at least made by a person, and you can appreciate rendering skills
Still, the copy of a reality in a malleable medium such as painting is highly uninteresting

listening to twitter talk about art is like going to an annoying people competition and interviewing the podium

i think we mostly agree. i do think it is corny and in poor taste. but like... comparing it to a photo is deliberately missing the point. and calling an entire genre of art uninteresting just because some artists are uninspired is strange
tortchip!!!!!!!
Also puts down photography 4 no reason.. photography also art

yes exactly! not to get too philosophical abt it but people miss the inherent artistic merit of seeing and interpreting the world around them. there is no such thing as a 'plain portrayal of reality'
