I like his take that movies need to stop using magical vague old timey English/Victorian settings and stop being cowards and make willy Wonka an influencer --
The Burton one was truer to the books and I adored it for that (and Danny Elfman voicing all the Oompa Loompas with a vocoder) ... but Gene Wilder is The Wonka

man I just watched the original recently, and gene wilder's performance and delivery was so like..... timelessly hilarious, no matter how dated and lmao the whole movie is, he's still amazing to watch
An origin story wouldn’t even be a problem angle to me (although the tacked on daddy issues WAS my only problem with Depp movie) if it didn’t feel so sanitized and devoid of the more creepy/snarky side of the character.
