(cw: covid) three days ago, epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding warned of a potential uptick in covid cases due to an increase of bad Yankee Candle reviews on Amazon. I wish I was making this up.

Crap—it’s back—Amazon reviewers last week again complaining about Yankee candle scent… Sandra complains “No smell”; LJ says it doesn’t smell as it “used to a few years back”; Mary complains she used to buy the same candle scent, but now “scent is very very weak”. CovidIsNotOver

There as a paper published in 2022 about how Yankee Candle reviews might well be the best predictor of upticks in Covid cases

It could very well be a case of correlation versus causation, since the research is - obviously - VERY new and very um. Based on negative Amazon reviews.

Which is not the MOST scientific thing ever, but an interesting point, if it's true
