Good morning! I wonder how it got from Australia to where you are. must’ve been a long swim for it.

🇺🇦HighDef🇺🇦 : the explanation I've heard is that when Luther Burbank was here (Santa Rosa) he planted/imported lots of exotic plants.

Tamsie : Aha! I should have guessed! :-)

I've never heard of a bunya bunya tree. That's so cool!
Gingo!
Californian has a climate that can support a lot of diverse flora. We planted a monkey puzzle tree (Araucaria araucana) in our front yard. It's native to the Andes, but can live here on the coast, although it grows slowly without the bright sun available in the mountains

I think that's why Luther Burbank moved from Massachusetts to Santa Rosa, because of our climate and growing season

I love those trees; I grew up knowing them as "monkey tail" trees.

Gingo! : are you near Santa Rosa? Our son and his family are there.

Gingo! : We have a bunch of monkey puzzle trees around Seattle too.

Tamsie I'm about 225 miles north of there, but I drove through it at least once a week for many years, and one of my best friends lives there. I first saw a monkey puzzle tree at Catalina Island, and wanted to buy a house here because it had one. Mrs. Gingo! didn't like the house, though, but said we could plant one!
