One observation with FIL/MIL, they are terrible eaters. Food is all about pleasure and I'd have to say they eat on par with what a 5 year old would choose. FIL is type 2 diabetic and has been for 30ish years. He said he is doing 'okay' but we know he has had neuropathy in his hands and assume his feet too for a long while.

So FIL refuses to acknowledge how carbs work. He insists that carbs 'don't effect me' and he can eat all he wants. He literally had a mac & cheese bowl at a pub for lunch, with garlic toast and a side of french fries. He had the biggest smile on his face; "I love noodles" was his comment. I said "don't you have to watch carbs?" and he said "I love em".

Me and hubs know he has Crohns and he gets some medical treatment for it in the form of a drug but he largely refuses to change his diet to help. So he takes a little change of clothes, sweatpants/underwear/depends and cleaning supplies for any 'accidents' that happen. But asking him to change his diet? Oh hell no, I like delicious food!

Sis in law is at her wits end, MIL seems content with her fate that her mate is falling apart and she just shrugs and doesn't do jack. He's 82 and every meal out, he looks at her "what do I like?" and she tells him what to order. I said "you don't know what you like?" and he smiles "well, she has to have a job taking care of me". It's...weird.

And when we are visiting, both MIL/FIL decide THEY are on vacation too so eating is pure crap. They went and had ice cream right after lunch like 4x this week. Full sugar, calories 600+ and then they pass out on the couch from sugar coma. He thinks it's great. She moans "Oh I had a salad, why did I get so sleepy?"

Demon Lacie
One day, MIL had a muffin at breakfast then 'skipped' lunch and ate a box of Whopper candies instead. She passed out on the couch for 90 minutes and slept it off. She's all "what happened? did I sleep?" FIL will say, out loud: "I'm being bad and cheating" whenever he eats shit. I finally said "do you ever NOT cheat?" and he giggled and said "Nope"

His hands basically don't work, I think the neuropathy is so total, his right hand is almost a claw, he uses both hands to hold a glass to drink and when he uses a fork, it's like watching a seal try to flapper and whack things. I see it, everyone sees it, they give zero fucks. Hubby shakes his head and talks to his dad but nothing changes.

Demon Lacie
His pinkie finger is like a out at this angle and doesn't move, it curls but when he grips things, it doesn't move. I know, 82 is old but my dad is 81 and his hands look fucking regular...it's freaky.

I hate this kind of thing. Ben has Gerd but he refuses to change his diet. he just suffers instead

My Sis in law and her husband are disgusted. She gives him a lot of grief but he is impervious to it. Somehow what docs say isn't true, or doesn't work with him. He's a child when it comes to food, he loves sweets, was a chubby kid and thinks it's cute that he loves it still. Sis in Law said that his whole body is falling apart and he laughs.

I think if I was 82 I would eat whatever the fuck I wanted too
