I remember as a kid oleander having a distinct 'clean' aroma when I was a kid in Los Angeles. heylisa is right in that they are quite toxic... newcomers to Southern California die occasionally from ingesting them

Oops! I man mimi is quite right, heylisa Horses are particularly attracted to oleander, and get poisoned fairly regularly. At the Veterinary Medicine school at UC Davis they have lots of information about horse's oleander ingestion
