I like how The Wandering Village does difficulty settings

It's very simple

Easy: "The game plays the tutorial and guides you step by step how to get your village set up and how to deal with problems. Threats and problems gradually ramp up as your technology increases"

Normal: "Like Easy, but without the tutorial."

Hard: "The pool of potential problems is full from the start of the game, good luck"
