Huh, stumble onto a theory about Mrs. Westerna's actions in Dracula that actually makes some sense

Generally it swings between 'Nobody told her the garlic flowers were part of the treatment for Lucy and ended up getting her killed out of tragic ignorance' to 'She is a very stupid woman who put smelling nice over her daughter's health'

someone suggested that Renfield wasn't the only one swayed into working for Dracula in exchange for immortality

-Mrs. Westerna we know is a middle-aged woman with a dangerous heart condition, and every one of her actions just so happens to be exactly what is needed to put Lucy in the path of danger (and finding out Mrs. Westerna made Arthur - not her daughter the beneficiary, and never telling Lucy about her illness)
