"an isekai anime pulled out the Mayfield twist at the halfway point"

Sonny Boy is not remotely what you would think of when you say "an isekai anime," to be fair, but it is about going to other dimensions and isekai is not synonymous with an overpowered harem protag in a high fantasy world anyway
