i wanted to do some drawing tonight, but unfortunately i decided that while i did i'd put trigun stampede on since the dub finally hit hulu

go rimbaud
i'm not finished with ep2 yet and i've already put my tablet away

go rimbaud
people weren't kidding about the animation on this show, it's really good

𝔟𝔲𝔯𝔫𝔱 𝔟𝔩𝔞𝔠ᴋ 𝔠𝔞𝔱
its SO good

go rimbaud
i'm a little surprised how quickly it's getting into knives stuff, but i'm chalking that up to it being a new story

go rimbaud
i'm definitely down to see where this ride's going

go rimbaud
millions knives really showing off his million knives

go rimbaud
wolfwood's voice'll take a little getting used to, but if the old series had been dubbed now for the first time it's the kind of voice you'd expect him to have

go rimbaud
i wonder if these flashbacks are 2d animation or if studio orange is just really flexing with them

go rimbaud
so, it was definitely 2d, but a neat change-up of style to express a different mood

go rimbaud
i'll definitely get to the last five episodes tomorrow, and maybe be able to draw after that

papermint tiger
Ooh I should watch it soon then

go rimbaud
it's good! definitely worth the watch

Stampede is awesome

go rimbaud
brad being an adult from the start like oh how the tuntables

go rimbaud
there's kni's problem, he was reading too much bible

go rimbaud
one-winged angel arm

go rimbaud
yeah, he would go ericks

go rimbaud
very glad that milly'll be there for s2

go rimbaud
so now i don't feel like rewathing the whole old series, but maybe the back half

go rimbaud
you know, knives didn't really have like, a grand plan or anything in the 98 anime

go rimbaud
like at best it seems like he planned to use the angel arms to just blow humanity the fuck up, but when vash took both the revolvers he...didn't do anything for 100 years?

go rimbaud
and then after july he had to spend a few decades healing because his entire lower half was missing

go rimbaud
like the only thing we really hear about is entire towns disappearing, and that's mostly legato taunting vash into a confrontation

go rimbaud
so because vash isn't necessarily really stopping knives from doing anything, the final shootout feels more like an ideological battle, which is...i guess it makes it feel more like a western in that way

go rimbaud
the stakes are close, it's just between these two brothers and their clashing perspectives, all themes no plot

go rimbaud
and that's definitely because the manga was super unfinished at the time, i think nightow even used the anime being in production as leverage to get a new magazine to launch maximum when the last one shut down

go rimbaud
so the overarching plot probably wasn't developed to the point it could be reflected in the anime

go rimbaud
still, it's part of what makes both 98 and stampede stand on their own without overlapping enough to make the other redundant

go rimbaud
i love when there are multiple adaptations of a thing that both do things differently enough that they can comfortably coexist

doomed 🤖 yaoi
Yeah and it feels so nice and solid

doomed 🤖 yaoi
I truthfully don't remember enough of 98 and I never read Maximum but this stands well on its own

𝔟𝔲𝔯𝔫𝔱 𝔟𝔩𝔞𝔠ᴋ 𝔠𝔞𝔱
having read the majority of maximum there are def changes but stampede is very much manga flavored

go rimbaud
yeah i haven't read the manga but that's the impression i get, while also definitely playing around with the and putting in their own spin

go rimbaud
meanwhile i'd rewatched 98 just a couple years ago so a lot of that was still fresh

𝔟𝔲𝔯𝔫𝔱 𝔟𝔩𝔞𝔠ᴋ 𝔠𝔞𝔱
the manga is very good i highly recommend

𝔟𝔲𝔯𝔫𝔱 𝔟𝔩𝔞𝔠ᴋ 𝔠𝔞𝔱
the backstory volume in the manga is still one of my absolute favorites
