moontyger
so this is pretty depressing and yet sadly I am not even that surprised
moontyger
saw something on this recently and my mom apparently has a chronic kidney infection which it sounds like they say they can't treat, so I was thinking about it
moontyger
I genuinely had no idea the tests were so inaccurate
SPOILER ALERT
welp! I'm so very glad that I don't get UTIs all that often anymore
moontyger
I have unfortunately always been pretty prone to them
moontyger
just seems to me like another "oh, well, it's mostly those disposable not-quite-people with icky lady parts who get these, so who cares if the test is accurate?"
SPOILER ALERT
yeah it reeks of that
SPOILER ALERT
and it sucks to find out that they build on each other like that
moontyger
also I am reading The Menopause Manifesto currently. it's a non-fiction book on menopause by a gynecologist because she noticed that women just don't get much info on it
moontyger
anyway, she talks about UTIs because they can be a real issue during and post-menopause and she says that all the tips they give for avoiding them: cotton underwear, wiping front to back, pee after sex, have not been proven to be effective
moontyger
which I was very surprised by
moontyger
I've been given these tips by multiple doctors! and yet...
moontyger
but I suspect this is how my mom got the kidney infection: UTI, test negative so no treatment, so then it ended up in her kidneys
