Man, like. Lady Loki. Fandom latched onto that hard and I always end up screaming internally when I see it because it's such a goddamn nightmare scenario
Loki gathered up an army and killed all of the Asgardians and everyone connected to them before Thor finally put a stop to that and then went "Y'know. We're part of a cycle here to entertain and feed Those Who Sit Above In Shadow. They live off of our lives, the infinite cycles of our Ragnaroks. So let's starve them by just not doing this again."
So he goes out and does this and basically brings back everyone but Odin, who is turbodead as he died well before Ragnarok happened, Loki, and Sif. Thor's content to let Loki stay dead. So he latches onto a signature that might be Sif, pops down, revives her and... It's Lady Loki. Mwahahaha etc.
Because eventually the old biddy would kick off and Thor would have to deal with Loki wearing Sif's face for eternity, or until he got tired of it and became a man again.
So, Thor eventually realizes this and finds Sif's body, in the near-corpse of a 80+ year old woman on life support who simply refused to die when someone was depending on her.
She felt someone shove a victim's soul into her body so that two birds could be claimed with one soul and went "Nah, I'm gonna live and whoever this is is gonna be rescued."
But, yeah, the entire thing of Lady Loki strutting it about, flaunting what she's got, girlbossing at the other villains? Nah, that was Loki violating Sif with every second he sleazed about in place of her soul, insulting and mocking everyone who was connected.
And that's why I can't get into this Lady Loki genderqueer stuff, because the whole genesis of it is in a storyline about torturing his adoptive brother while trying to murder someone in such a way that not even an All-Father could bring her back because there'd surely be no way to ever find her, tied as she was to sickly woman Thor wouldn't look at twice.
imo, the Lady Loki this is mcuLoki fans grabbing some no context comic frames and thinking it's something it isn't. I don't remember when I first learned it was Loki stealing Sif's body, but it was after I first heard about the whole thing in general
Loki getting attached to Pride stuff was deffo. after Hiddleston made the character a Hot, Cool Character, but there were folks latching on to Lady Loki earlier than that. It's just a thing that's been growing and growing as time went on and the MCU brought in fans. And, like.
I could argue Loki being genderqueer has a basis in the mythology (given Slepnir), but you're 100% correct in that it shouldn't be tied to the Loki-in-Sif's-body thing
Marvel's very carefully danced around the whole "Loki sleeps with animals" thing, at least up 'til I stopped regularly reading, and I can't say I'm entirely comfy tying genderqueerness to that, either? But, yeah, it's a fair point.
actually genderqueer Loki is marvel canon now. He becomes a woman for the whole 10th Realm arc bc Heven is a matriarchal society and she can sweettalk them into doing what she wants better as a woman
that's not to say that the 'stealing Sif's body' origin plotline isn't gross as hell, but... it's definitely become a fundamental part of the character
I still can't really get into it comfortably because of the origin and their lack of doing anything to establish that as a thing before the Sifjacking.
I mean, the idea of transness wasn't as prevalent or talked about in mainstream culture until relatively recently. Marvel throwing out a trans or gender queer character as big as Loki would have made a lot of waves back in the early 2000s
i called "lady loki" sif!loki on tumblr back in the day for this reason, it annoyed me how sif just got erased by the lack of context people had for this story
