Iris: we know nothing about her family, but given all her early childhood flashbacks, she seems to be an orphan, half-raised by the Old Matriarch/Village Elder and half-raised by wild Pokemon (that's why she fights and forages like that.)
My personal headcanon has always been she's an orphan and lost both her parents too young to remember (... in a snow storm, to make her aversion to ice and snow and the cold worse.)
*Lillie canonically grew up, believing her father died when she was a baby, until failing to find his spirit in the mist made them realize he wasn't dead. The man slipped into an Ultra Hole, lost his memories, and cohabited with a Nihilego (not the same one that tried to eat his daughter, PFFT)
for years, while she mimicked Lillie's appearance from rooting around in his memories. Anyway, Lillie has done so much work to heal, that she can now hold and embrace her Nihilego sister and didn't let her disappear after her father regained his menories.
Mohn is a loving family man! He's loving, calls Lillie a princess, tried to revive a Magearna just for her to be playmate/caretaker/family for Lillie...
Lillie tried to complete his work whenbshe found the journal... I headcanon Lillie's Z-Ring is a little loose on her because it's canonically originally her dad's. ;3;
Trip: no canonical family for this one, all we get are implications. Implied rich brat, judging by speech and design elements and the whole royalty/nobility theme (Serperior's also based on French royalty and aristocracy) and the dub giving him such an old-fashioned southern nickname for someone whose name ends in III (the Third.)
(The dub skirting around things is hilarious. Japanese dialogue courtesy of Adeku is so frank, the dub is like "do you have any admiration for a man such as myself?" yeah, maybe half of that is trying to convey the humbleness of "washi" but "any admiration" instead of like or love...)
All of Trip's validation-seeking has been funneled into Alder and we never see parents in his two flashbacks either. Tiny Trip alone at the festival concerns you guys on Ultern??? That was the case in Unova too!!
(I assume he has both parents, but they do not caaaare and do not support his childish dreams. They're never there, but hey, tons of money, so he wants for nothing material.)
Think James of Team Rocket. Anyway, that's why he understood Gold's jealousy over Professor Banyan, because that is literally how he acted about Alder. Running hot and cold!!! Most childish we see Trip: elbowing and shoving Ash trying to get to Alder, ffff.
So much so, Alder compared him to a fickle woman, ffff. Aaand mad about him flirting and being a nuisance who doesn't beat it when rejected... (it's all ruining Trip's idealized image of him, so.)
Buson (Attila): he's only in one special and one movie introduction cameo as the villain, so we don't get backstory for him...... unless you count the heavily rewritten dub where he's a wrangler with fond memories of his uncle's ranch in the Black Hills.....
For mine, I headcanon he had very nice parents who had him on the older side. I could never decide if I wanted him to be an only child or have siblings, but tend to only child or one of many. Poor family, never had enough, joined TR trying to escape poverty (so similar situation to Jessie) after failure in all other paths.
Original motivation: support his family! They're kept in the dark about the nature of his work. He got too deeply involved, so it's too dangerous for him to visit them, so he supports them from afar until they die.
... in Ultern, he's genuinely much happier as a sailor (he liked farming and being a ranch hand well enough too, but he likes sailing a lot more... he co-piloted aircraft with Bashou back home!)
