So the light in the bathroom has gone out

swoleregard
"no big deal, June, just replace it" but we.... can't

swoleregard
first problem: the ceilings in this place are inconveniently high. this has been a problem for a while in general, especially re: other lights, so ltmutiny finally buckled and bought a stepladder. THREE stepladders, actually, which is its own piece of the story.

swoleregard
second problem, less solvable: we... literally can't open the light fixture

swoleregard
it will not open

swoleregard
every time either of us try, it feels like we're pulling the entire fixture out of the ceiling

swoleregard
and it... doesn't feel that securely fixed

swoleregard
we've been making do with a sticky tap light from Target, which is good enough for like, bathroom runs in the night, but it's not bright enough for either of us to shower at night

swoleregard
so I just bought ANOTHER battery-operated light with a remote that we can put in the shower

swoleregard
it all feels very, idk... something

swoleregard
but the alternative is like, calling an electrician maybe? to, functionally, change a light bulb. and then trying to figure out payment through our literally-not-in-the-country landlords.

do you have a picture of the fixture?

whiphand
oh mine are the same way lmao I haven't had working kitchen lights in over a year

whiphand
for that same reason

The building doesn't have a super to swap out the fixture? You don't need an electrician unless you're requiring.

train bitch (+)
....rewiring is a word, phone

swoleregard
yeahhhh we are not talking to our super for various reasons

train bitch (+)
But I feel you, my bath room is still lit by an outdoor floodlight mere bought me at Home Depot in 2018

train bitch (+)
Because the wiring is what's shot.

train bitch (+)
.....taskrabbit?

train bitch (+)
You just need a handyperson. Fixture changing is basic maintenance.

swoleregard
lol Ilana had that thought but the problem is we don't really know what needs doing. it feels really wedged in there.

train bitch (+)
I'd have to see it, alas.

swoleregard
like, it's hard to explain exactly what I'm talking about, it just feels like it would be all too easy to rip out half the ceiling

swoleregard
I'll take pictures later, we're about to watch a movie c:

swoleregard
or... tomorrow, i guess, since it's already dark in there now

train bitch (+)
That is also not an electrician problem, just saying. Super, handyman, maybe a contractor or maintenance worker friend willing to take a really small job.

train bitch (+)
Which is a good thing, as all those are much cheaper than electricians.
