says One of the downsides to a very restricted diet is traveling, as in trying to figure out how to stay on the diet in new, unfamiliar places.

footpad
says Especially when the things you most have to restrict are, apparently, central to the American diet, specifically salt and sugar.

says I've figured out how to manage it at home and now I think I've worked out a way to manage in a new place. I've found a place that provides freeze dried meals that fit my needs. So, now I feel like I can pack a few and go somewhere new while working out other options once I get there.

says Add in a portable tea pot (essentially) and a collapsible camping bowl and I'm set. I only need a power outlet.

It’s good that you’ve made a plan you can stick to!

We have the same challenge. Actually, we rarely go anywhere, mostly because of Ken's dietary needs. It's super frustrating. Where do you get those freeze dried meals?

- LeafSide has savory (lunch/dinner) and sweet (breakfast) bowls. The salt in the savory bowls is generally less than the calories, which is more than I usually allow myself, but within the range my doctor gave me. There are no-salt options available, too.

says At $10/meal US it a bit pricey, but I've been alternating days, so it isn't too terribly expensive. Taste varies, so definitely experiment.

says Their subscription model is a pain, but you can manage it. I'm not entirely convinced it's a perfect solution, but it adds options to an otherwise limited situation. (The American food system is so heavily weighted toward salt and sugar. It's depressing.)

Thanks! I wouldn't subscribe, I cook most of our food from scratch and make my own alterations. But having something for traveling interests me.

footpad
says Unfortunately, they're set up as a subscription, which can be skipped or minimized. I'm testing things out to see if I can devise a subscription that helps supplement what I've been doing. I'm not that great a cook, partly because it isn't a lot of fun more, more of a mess than anything else.

Ahhh. Yeah, I'm a Pandemic Fossil - rarely use Zoom, have never had groceries delivered, and the notion of subscribing to a food prep service is horrifying!

And I rather like cooking.
