izzy.vrs
it's 2023, why has skyrim been released for every platform

except mac computers
taffy
what
izzy.vrs
how is this still a problem
izzy.vrs
YEAH
taffy
it's on switch, what's your excuse todd
izzy.vrs
JUST STRAIGHT UP
izzy.vrs
CAN'T RUN ON MAC
izzy.vrs
i have one of the most powerful commercially available computers here, a mac studio m1 ultra
izzy.vrs
nope, can't do it
taffy
this is why i can't go back to macs
taffy
not skyrim specifically. games generally
izzy.vrs
unfortunately we need this specific architecture for work
izzy.vrs
because the m1 ultra is purpose-built for graphics and video editing work
izzy.vrs
this thing rips through frames like nobody's business
izzy.vrs
can't play skyrim because bethany esda says nah
MaxSalsa
Once Metal adds that new Metal compatibility layer in Sonoma via Xcode, it could perhaps be brute forced?
MaxSalsa
*Once Apple
izzy.vrs
i mean technically i could install windows on bootcamp but like
izzy.vrs
i shouldn't have to
izzy.vrs
why is this the one platform i can't play skyrim or fallout on
MaxSalsa
As my usual Apple podcast mentioned last week: nobody plays games on iMac, so nobody develops games for Mac, so nobody plays games on Mac.
MaxSalsa
We need to convince Tim Cook to add it to Apple Arcade, clearly.
izzy.vrs
but it's a game i already own. in fact according to steam i own it thrice (standard, SE, VR)
izzy.vrs
and this is far and away the most powerful machine i have access to
Goldude
It's not on the virtua boy
izzy.vrs
i just feel like "nobody plays it on imac" isn't an excuse
NekoIncardine
IIRC isn't there an Apple Compatibility Toolkit for the M-series specifically to try and get around this?
NekoIncardine
But Todd Howard is still bullshit, to be clear
izzy.vrs
i dunno about that. all i know is that i'm on a $3,000 computer that outperforms my boss's similarly expensive custom pc and it can't natively play one of the most widely distributed video games available
DehydratedWater
NekoIncardine : they've literally just announced it like a couple of days ago. Proton for Mac, basically. Though Apple seems to think it should be used more for Devs to port games rather that Proton's "just make windows games work" approach.
NekoIncardine
Apparently it's confirmed working for Diablo IV.

Don't get me started on Epic buying out a company and immediately removing the Linux port of their game. <_<
